Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, the former Nintendo employees who now run their own video game consulting agency, have a unique perspective on the industry. After working at Nintendo for over a decade, they left to pursue their own projects, eventually founding Never A Minute Consulting.
Their agency offers a range of services to help developers market their games, including key propositioning, brand messaging, and tent-pole events. They also provide career coaching and help with hiring.
Ellis and Yang stress the importance of having a clear message about your game and knowing your target audience. They also advise avoiding short-term decision making and taking the long view to understand what the actual opportunity is if you really zoom out.
As for their own goals, they want to help people make their games seen and succeed in the competitive gaming industry. They also want to keep their agency relatively intimate and not grow too quickly.
"We are a two-person organization," says Yang. "When someone works with us, they get both of us. There is a lot of value in that."
